FLCL: Grunge will be directed by Hitoshi Takekiyo (Appleseed XIII) and produced by MontBlanc Pictures, with FLCL: Shoegaze directed by Yukata Uemura (FLCL Alternative) and co-produced by Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell, Psycho-Pass) and Studio NUT (FLCL Alternative, Deca-Dence). Both series are set to air sometime in 2023, according to Toonami creative director Jason DeMarco.

Alongside the news, Adult Swim also released a brief look at FLCL: Grunge, featuring a different animation style than in past FLCL iterations, but retaining the original anime’s iconic theme song of “Ride on Shooting Star” by The Pillows.
