Officially, WWE is billing Steve Austin’s appearance at WrestleMania as a Kevin Owens show segment but Austin has plans to do more than just give Owens a stunner and a beer bath.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Austin has been upping his cardio and the plan is for a fight scene and not just the quick stunner that fans have been accustomed to seeing. Austin reportedly never agreed to do a match but he did agree to the fight sequence. As WrestlingNews.co noted a couple of weeks ago, Austin has a ring on his property and he has taken bumps.

It was also reported that there’s been talk about an angle leading to the match if Austin were to agree to it but they needed to announce Austin for Manis this week.

WWE is advertising this as Austin’s first physical confrontation since his 2003 retirement but that’s not actually the case. Austin has gotten physical on several WWE shows since 2003, including when he gave Brock Lesnar and Goldberg the stunner at WrestleMania XX in 2004, WrestleMania 21 when he gave the stunner to Carlito, a Saturday Night’s Main Event segment with JBL in 2006, a 2011 segment with Michael Cole, WrestleMania 32 where he delivered stunners to Rusev, Wade Barrett and Xavier Woods and there was the Raw Reunion segment in 2019 where he stunned AJ Styles. He also gave Vince and Shane McMahon a stunner at the Raw 25th anniversary show in 2018 and he gave Byron Saxton the stunner on the March 16, 2020 episode of Raw.
