Mickie James is a true veteran of the pro wrestling world as she was one of the mainstays of WWE’s women’s division during the mid to late 2000s. After being fired by WWE back in April last year, Mickie James made her way to NWA and then Impact Wrestling soon after.

James would go on to become the Knockouts Champion as well. She also defended her title against Deonna Purrazzo in a Texas Death Match at Impact Wrestling’s Hard To Kill pay-per-view. James successfully retained the title as well.

According to Fightful Select, Mickie James and Deonna Purrazzo made history at the Hard To Kill pay-per-view as they were the main event of the night. This was a plan made well in advance and not a reactionary move based on Mickie James being announced for the Women’s Royal Rumble match.

Mickie James and Deonna Purrazzo are making a lot of history this weekend, between Mickie being announced as a Royal Rumble entrant while Knockout’s Champion, and Purrazzo competing for the ROH Title, which she is expected to win.

However, they made history in being set to main event the Hard to Kill PPV. We’re told that this was not a reactionary move from the company based on the Royal Rumble announcement for Mickie James. At least since last week, the plan was for James and Purrazzo to main event the show. The company wanted it to serve as a surprise, with one source comparing it to the X Division main eventing Unbreakable 2005 as the most buzzworthy match on the show.

WWE and Impact Wrestling managed to work out a deal for Mickie James’ appearance at the Women’s Royal Rumble match. It remains to be seen how James will fare in the match.
