Bryan Danielson and Adam Page had a classic match for the AEW World Heavyweight Title on Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite: Winter Is Coming where they opened the show and went to a 60-minute draw with Page retaining the championship as a result.

Even when he was in WWE, Danielson kept an eye on talent outside of the company and that included “Hangman.” Danielson gave high praise to Page during an interview with Sports Illustrated.

He recalled watching Page develop over the years while working for ROH and NJPW. He said that it’s crazy to see how Page has grown from an in-ring perspective and a character perspective. This is when he compared Page to WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

“I love his updated brawler style of wrestling. To me, he wrestles a modernized version of the way Steve Austin wrestled, and that cowboy persona reminds a lot of people of Steve Austin. But in 2021, you can’t come in and be just like Steve Austin. He’s developed this nuanced cowboy character with a drinking problem.”

With Danielson and Page going to a draw, a rematch is expected to take place. AEW has a few options regarding when the match could take place as it may go down on the January 5th edition of Dynamite, which is the first episode on TBS, or the Battle of the Belts special on January 8th. The Revolution pay-per-view event is also another option on March 6th.
