J SPORTS, the Japanese broadcaster that carries WWE shows, has announced that their deal with WWE will be ending soon. This means that WWE will not have a TV partner in the country to air Monday Night Raw and SmackDown in 2022.
This news comes as WWE shut down their Japanese offices and laid off several employees several weeks ago.
At one point, WWE had major plans to expand in the region with plans to launch an NXT Japan brand. Those plans never materialized. There were also plans that didn’t pan out to expand in other areas such as South America and Australia.
After Raw and SmackDown are pulled off the air, the only WWE programming that will be available to fans is the “This Week in WWE” recap show that airs on Samurai TV. It’s unclear if WWE is in talks with another broadcaster to air their shows.
