Gable Steveson was interviewed on Corey Graves’ “After The Bell” podcast to talk about his amateur career and his decision to sign with WWE. Here are some highlights:

Steveson was asked, “What about the WWE world intrigued you the most”:

“They allowed me to go back to school. If I would have signed with UFC or tried to do NFL, I would have to leave an open book with the University of Minnesota that I couldn’t finish. I wanted to go back and win the National Tournament again. I wanted to go back and wrestle in front of my fans because last year we couldn’t because of Covid rules, and the year before that, it got canceled. I wanted to go back and have that last run with everybody seeing me.”

“I’ve seen photos online of you with Brock Lesnar. Obviously, you have the Minnesota Wrestling connection. Has Brock or anybody else reached out to you or helped you along to prepare for this?”

“Brock a while ago was preparing me for the long journey that he knew I was going to have. Brock came in my freshman year of college and talked to me about winning, friends, and having the right circle around you, and having guys like that, that you really don’t see that are big time ballers and players, and stuff like that in the world. To have him come in, sit me down, and give me the gist of how his life was, how he became so successful, and try to put it into me, it’s like a once in a lifetime thing that you have to listen to. It’s not something you shy away from. You have to take those words and run with them. Everything he said, I took it, ran with it, did the best I could, and I’m here now, so it was pretty good I guess.”

Steveson was asked how it to be in front of the live crowd at SummerSlam:

“When I came out for SummerSlam and Triple H brought me down from the suite, he said, ‘You’re going to go out and be on stage.’ I was like, this is something as kids I always wanted to do. I wanted to know what it feels like to be in front of 50,000 people on the big screen on the stage. I got out there, and it just felt natural, like normal.”
