Former WWE Superstar Paul Wight, who used to be known as the Big Show in WWE, spent over two decades in the company before he decided to take his skills elsewhere. Wight eventually made his way to AEW, much to the surprise of the pro wrestling world.

The backstage environments in WWE and AEW are undoubtedly different. As a few former WWE Superstars have mentioned in the past. Both companies have their own ideals as to how they conduct their work.

On top of that, both companies also have their own methods when it comes to delivering their products to fans and many fans are simply tired of what WWE does.

While speaking to Adam Glyn, Paul Wight was asked about the differences between WWE and AEW. Wight stated that AEW is more of an authentic wrestling product than WWE and that it doesn’t have too many writers backstage, unlike in WWE.

“I think both products are amazing, I think they’re just different products. I think WWE is always going to be the entertainment sports spectacle, the global brand they’ve worked so hard to be and AEW is more of an authentic wrestling product. You know, there’s no 15 to 20 writers backstage at AEW. If you have a promo, you have a promo, if you have a match, you have a match. There’s not much upper level handling on what they want during the match and what they are trying to present for the intellectual property that they own.”

Jon Moxley also recently stated that AEW’s success can be attributed to its performers being more authentic. It seems Wight is more than happy working in AEW thanks to the creative environment provided there and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
