As production continues on House of the Dragon, HBO continues to expand its already massive ensemble with the addition of seven new cast members.

The additions include Outlander star Graham McTavish, who back in May was rumored to have been secretly cast in the project. In addition to McTavish, the premium network has announced that Ryan Corr (Mary Magdalene), Jefferson Hall (Vikings), David Horovitch (Miss Marple), Matthew Needham (Chernobyl), Bill Patterson (Fleabag, Good Omens), and Gavin Spokes (Hamilton) have been officially cast to join the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel.

Their official character descriptions are listed below, with one of them set to portray a character, who bears a recognizable family name for Game of Thrones fans.

  • Hall will be playing the dual roles of twins Lord Jason Lannister & Ser Tyland Lannister – Jason is the Lord of Casterly Rock, while Tyland is the crafty and calculating politician
  • McTavish will be playing Ser Harrold Westerling – a character who has served in the Kingsguard since the days of King Jaehaerys; he is a paragon of chivalry and honor.
  • Bill Paterson will be playing Lord Lyman Beesbury – the Lord of Honeyholt and Master of Coin on King Viserys’s small council.
  • Spokes will be playing Lord Lyonel Strong – who is the Master of Laws to King Viserys and Lord of Harrenhal.
  • Corr will be playing Ser Harwin “Breakbones” Strong – who is said to be the strongest man in the Seven Kingdoms. Ser Harwin is the eldest son to Master of Laws Lyonel Strong and heir to Harrenhal.
  • Matthew Needham will be playing Larys Strong – the younger son of Master of Laws Lyonel Strong, brought to court by his father.
  • David Horovitch will be playing Grand Maester Mellos – a voice of reason and trusted advisor to King Viserys.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & BloodHouse of the Dragon chronicles the rise and the downfall of the Targaryens, who are the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. It will take place 300 years before the events of the award-winning series adaptation of Game of Thrones which aired its final episode nearly two years ago.

The 10-episode series will be led by Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. It will also feature Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Milly Alcock, and Emily Carey.

House of the Dragon hails from George R.R. Martin, Ryan Condal, and Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik, with Condal and Sapochnik also attached to serve as showrunners. Executive producers are. Executive producers are Martin, Sapochnik, Condal, Vince Gerardis, and Sara Lee Hess.

The prequel series is currently eyeing a 2022 debut.
