According to the report, Howard will produce the film for Disney+, with John Swartz and Justin Springer also attached as producers for the film. The original 1986 children’s sci-fi adventure film told the story of a 12-year-old boy who gets abducted by a UFO. Eight years later, he is returned to Earth at the same exact age, and with no memory of what happened. The film then focuses on the adventure of him trying to unravel what happened, while NASA tries to catch him for their own research purposes.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that the new film will be led by a female protagonist, although it’s not known whether or not the age ranges for the characters will change. This isn’t the first time Disney has tried to reboot the cult classic, with an attempt being made in 2009 before rights were lost to Lionsgate, who also unsuccessfully attempted to bring the property back.
