Big E made history on WWE Monday Night Raw

Big E was crowned the new WWE Champion on Monday’s episode of Raw. Bobby Lashley successfully retained the title over Randy Orton in the main event. After the match, Lashley attacked Matt Riddle and Orton. At one point, Lashley sent Orton through the announce table.

This is when Lashley started selling his knee as part of the table hit him in the leg. Whether he was actually injured or not, the storyline was that Lashley was supposed to be further weakened with a knee issue so Big E could win the title from him via cashing in the Money In The Bank contract. Big E dethroned Lashley with The Big Ending.

As a result of this title win, Big E made history as he was just the fifth WWE NXT Champion to later become either the WWE or Universal Champion. Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens, and Finn Balor did it before him.

It appears that a rematch will take place between Lashley and Big E at Extreme Rules. After Raw, it was reported that WWE putting the title on Big E was not a late decision.
