Battlefield 2042 Delayed by a Month

No game is seemingly safe from delays and that includes the big blockbusters. DICE announced that Battlefield 2042 would be delayed by just a few weeks and will now release on November 19, 2021 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

The official Battlefield Twitter account revealed this push through a picture filled with text, as is usually the case with these sorts of delays. The posting blamed the pandemic for some “unforeseen challenges” that were thrusted onto the development team, something DICE thought would be solved by this time. However, the Delta variant of Covid-19 has changed that and kept the team out of the office. DICE said it was “important to take extra time to deliver on the vision” of the game and thanked fans for their enthusiasm.

This is not a huge delay as Battlefield 2042 was originally slated for October 22, a date that came alongside its first gameplay trailer. However, this now puts the game after its biggest competitor, Call of Duty: Vanguard, which is coming out on November 5. There were rumblings of another big delay, as GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb hinted on September 14 that some mysterious game was not going to hit its release date. Some (correctly) speculated that Battlefield 2042 was that game.

Battlefield 2042 is still going to have its open beta, but even that might be in flux. Grubb also stated that he heard that the beta was also getting pushed. DICE hasn’t confirmed this, but did say that it will have “updates” on the open beta later this month.
