WWE isn’t the right fit for everybody, but Alex Shelley received an opportunity to compete in NXT. He loved the experience, but that doesn’t mean he wants to talk about whether or not they planned on going forward with him on the black and gold brand.
Shelley is a veteran of pro wrestling and found fame in TNA. He formed a union with KUSHIDA and got to perform as the Time Splitters in NXT. They worked three matches together before Shelley left to pursue other opportunities.
While speaking to Fightful, Alex Shelley did not seem to have and bad feelings about his time in NXT. His twenty-year career has seen ups and downs, but NXT seemed like a high point where he worked for a company that took great care of their performers.
“I loved it. I’d rather not discuss whether or not we were going to go forward with this because it just really doesn’t matter in the long run, right? I really liked it. I loved it. They treated their athletes so well, right? They treat their wrestlers like pro athletes. I’ve never seen anything like it and I’ve been in wrestling almost 20 years, which is crazy to say. The amount of care they put into this is just paramount.
“They really, really tried to take care of these people’s health and that’s something I had never been witness to and I hope it’s a change going forward. I loved teaming with Kushida. I loved the Time Splitters with all my heart. I think things might have been different though, had the pandemic not happened.”
KUSHIDA just lost the NXT Cruiserweight Title to Roderick Strong last week on NXT 2.0. We will have to see what is next for the former NJPW star, because the WWE Draft could call up anyone with that kind of experience. Alex Shelley won’t be around WWE, but he will likely be watching his former tag team partner’s career continue under Vince McMahon’s umbrella.
If anything, it was nice to have the Time Splitters in NXT for a few matches while KUSHIDA cut his teeth with the company.
